Any platform, whether a pedestal, frame or gallery, is an intertwined component of an artwork.  Both the artwork and platform are interdependent, and one views an artwork through such mediations.

An overlap of genres dilutes the specific form of one construct with the other, at the same time pointing to their own similarities and differences.  As opposing forces, they give each other meaning, but once this construction is realized, the bottom falls out on their self-aware simulacrum, their own distorted copy of reality.

One can infer meaning of information through the constructs of the world where something is presented.  But there is also a relevant drama that occurs through this presentation.  In an environment where the illusion of originality has been discarded this drama of revitalizing an idea is often all that is left.

Sean Keenan (b. 1985) works in the fields of sculpture, painting, writing and sound. He has exhibited in New York, London, Chicago and Boston. His first solo exhibition opens Friday, October 11th at Carrie Rowland Gallery in Richmond, VA. The show features works with Jeff Eaton, long-time collaborator and friend. Sean Keenan is a current resident of Brooklyn, NY. He holds the position of Curatorial Associate/Archivist at White Columns, the oldest alternative space in New York City.
